FotoFocus is pleased to announce the publication of Big Tent, a catalogue that accompanies the inaugural exhibition at the newly opened FotoFocus Center, on view through August 22, 2026. Featuring an essay by Kevin Moore, FotoFocus Artistic Director and Curator, and an afterword by Katherine Ryckman Siegwarth, FotoFocus Executive Director, Big Tent is designed by Luminosity Lab and Caleb Cain Marcus. A limited number of catalogues will be available for presale at the closing reception of Big Tent on Saturday, August 22 from 5- 7 PM, with a release scheduled for September.
Bringing together work by over fifty artists, Big Tent reflects upon the current state of American democracy while also considering the efficacy of photography to be a catalyst for meaningful change. Partly inspired by the poem 'In This Place (An American Lyric)' by Amanda Gorman, which has been reproduced in full and thoughtfully woven into the catalogue design, the exhibition takes the concept of 'big tent'-commonly defined with reference to a political party's policy of permitting or encouraging a broad spectrum of views among its members-as a metaphor for the fraught yet aspirational nature of American civic life and its democratic ideals. With work of vastly different photographic styles and formats, Big Tent demonstrates the radically diverse character of contemporary America, seeing it as a point of pride rather than shame, as cause for celebration instead of reaction.
