Kilchoan Estate by Dunton Officially Opens in the Scottish Highlands

Dunton celebrates the official opening of Kilchoan Estate by Dunton, the brand's first European property and a significant milestone in its collection of intimate luxury retreats. Spanning 13,000 acres between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn, the newly restored estate offers year-round access to one of the most remote and spectacular landscapes in the Scottish Highlands, reached only by boat or on foot.

"Today marks the realization of a deeply personal vision for Dunton, one rooted in stewardship, authenticity, and an enduring respect for place," said Edoardo Rossi, Executive Vice President of Dunton. "Kilchoan Estate is far more than a hotel opening. It is the revival of a remarkable Highland landscape where guests can disconnect from the modern world while experiencing the warmth, hospitality, and exceptional food that define the Dunton experience. Under the careful guardianship of Katrin and Christoph Henkel, Kilchoan establishes a new benchmark for conservation-led luxury in Europe."

Kilchoan Estate's history stretches back centuries, with ownership traced to the 12th century. Shaped by clan traditions, agricultural life, and the lasting legacy of the Highland Clearances, the land has long occupied an important place in the story of Scotland's west coast. Following its acquisition by Katrin and Christoph Henkel, the estate underwent a thoughtful restoration that preserved its architectural character and cultural heritage while preparing it for a new chapter as an immersive hospitality destination. Their vision echoes the philosophy behind Dunton Hot Springs in Colorado: protect historic places while inviting guests to experience them in meaningful ways.

Now open to guests, Kilchoan Estate features five meticulously restored stone and timber cottages ranging from two to five bedrooms, each redesigned by London-based Waldo Works, the acclaimed studio behind the recent restoration work at Dunton Hot Springs. Two additional cottages are expected to open in early 2027.

The estate's design reflects its Highland surroundings through the use of local stone, pine, and slate, complemented by interiors inspired by the textures and colors of the surrounding mountains, lochs, and coastline. Textiles from respected British and Irish makers including Bute, Mourne Textiles, and the Isle Mill combine with bespoke Scottish furnishings and carefully chosen European pieces to create spaces that feel both refined and deeply connected to their setting. Throughout the estate, artwork personally selected by owner Katrin Henkel adds individuality and character to each cottage.

Beyond the accommodations, guests can relax in the newly opened spa with its sauna and yoga studio, gather in The Long House for Dunton's signature communal dining experiences, or explore the surrounding wilderness through hiking, cycling, kayaking, and countless opportunities to experience the natural beauty of the Knoydart Peninsula.
