Houston’s social and business leaders gathered under the bright lights of The Cotton Q Club, the high-energy, invite-only tent presented by Cotton Holdings, as the World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest kicked off the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Long considered one of the most anticipated events of the rodeo season, The Cotton Q Club once again proved why it has earned a reputation as the hottest tent on the grounds. As title sponsor of the contest, Cotton Holdings transformed its space into a seamless blend of barbecue, elevated hospitality, and Texas-sized entertainment.

Among the weekend’s hosts were Cotton Holdings Founder and Chairman Pete Bell; Chief Marketing Officer Zinat Ahmed; Co-CEOs Johnny Slaughter and Chris Sneck; and Quanta Services President and CEO Duke Austin and his wife, Sanette Austin.

The guest list also included Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo President and CEO Chris Boleman and Board Chair Pat Mann Phillips, energy executive Jeff Hildebrand, former Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, Houston Texans linebacker Will Anderson Jr., Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham and businessman Ed Buckingham, Houston arts patron Kaleta Blaffer Johnson, Grammy-nominated rapper Bun B (Bernard Freeman), and more.

Music played a central role in the weekend’s momentum. Gabby Barrett headlined Thursday night, setting the tone for a packed tent. Friday opened with Sammy Kershaw before Josh Turner took the stage, and Braxton Keith closed out Saturday night with a crowd-pleasing set that carried the party through the final hours.

Throughout the weekend, Cotton Culinary presented themed menus that gave each evening its own distinct flavor: steak night on Thursday, fajitas on Friday, and classic barbecue on Saturday, with desserts tailored to complement each theme. Guests sipped selections from Constellation Brands, WhistlePig, Dripping Springs Distillery, and Republic National Distributing Company, keeping glasses raised well into the night.

In celebration of the Year of the Horse, dramatic red rose horses were suspended from the ceiling of the main tent — a striking contrast against the tent’s signature green palette. The installation symbolized agility and strength, values that mirror the ethos of Cotton Holdings.

Tucked within the tent, the coveted speakeasy known as the Gold Pony returned as an intimate, high-style escape. Guests entered through a hidden passage into a refined ranch-inspired space anchored by a martini bar dubbed The Stirrup, presented by Sophie. The bar featured three curated martinis and caviar-stuffed olives, elevating the classic cocktail hour. Kinetic art by Houston-based artist Sneha Merchant adorned the emerald walls, adding movement and modernity to the moody interior.

The Gold Pony’s cocktail menu featured specialty pours from Casa Dragones, including the Cotton Signature Sour and the Spicy Gold Pony, alongside selections from Simple Spirits and Ace of Spades, as well as caviar from DR Delicacy. 1932 Cattleman's Club debuted Gold Pony-exclusive bites and desserts, while on Friday night, Bun B surprised partygoers with his wildly popular Trill Burgers.

By the time the final notes played Saturday night, The Cotton Q Club had once again cemented its place as rodeo season’s most coveted invitation — a space where business, culture, and celebration meet under one unforgettable tent.
