Ori, the independent print magazine redefining travel storytelling, has been recognized with two prestigious awards at the 2025 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition, hosted by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation (SATW). The publication earned an Honorable Mention in the Travel Magazines category – just behind Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, and AFAR – underscoring the publication’s commitment to authentic, narrative-driven global storytelling. In addition, Ori contributor David Farley received a Bronze Award in the Special-Purpose Travel Feature category for his deeply reported story ‘Back to Life: Rebuilding the Czech Republic’s Miracle Village,’ published in Ori’s second issue.
Founded in 2023, Ori was created “for travelers, by travelers” as an antidote to the dominance of algorithm-driven travel media and the prevalence of listicle-style content. By working directly with local journalists, photographers, and artists around the world, Ori produces deeply rooted stories that highlight cultural nuance and human connection. The magazine is also structured as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, reinvesting in underrepresented voices through the Ori Creative Grant, which funds independent reporting projects globally.
“This recognition from SATW affirms what we set out to do with Ori: restore travel media to a space of curiosity and depth,” said Kade Krichko, Founding Editor of Ori. “David Farley’s work on the Czech Republic is a testament to the kind of immersive, place-based storytelling we believe in, and we’re honored to be recognized alongside so many respected names in the field.”
The Lowell Thomas Awards, now in their 41st year, are considered the most prestigious in the field of travel journalism, celebrating excellence across print, digital, and broadcast media worldwide.
