Muck Rack Releases Second State of Work-Life Balance in Journalism Report

Muck Rack has announced the release of its second Second State of Work-Life Balance in Journalism report. To better understand how work-life balance impacts professionals working in journalism, Muck Rack surveyed over 400 journalists on topics including stress, burnout, vacation days, and working arrangements.

Key findings included:

  • Burnout remains high. 50% of journalists have considered quitting this year.
  • For more than one-third, mental health is declining, with access to therapy cited as the biggest factor in improvement.
  • Social media blurs boundaries, with 80% saying it impacts work-life balance.
  • Those with improving mental health cite solutions like counseling, a good support system and remote or hybrid work arrangements.

These findings shed light on the pressures journalists face and how that might affect media relationships, communication preferences and expectations.
