TCPR is seeking a Managing Director with a minimum of 10 years of experience to join the New York team. Their core responsibilities include leading key client relationships in the home & design space, overseeing account strategy, team performance, and client success. This senior, client-facing role leads 10+ accounts and manages a team of approximately five professionals. Managing Directors report primarily to the Founder + President and collaborate with the Senior Vice President on select accounts.

Role and Responsibilities

Client Oversight and Strategic Direction

  • Oversee a portfolio of client accounts, ensuring overall health, momentum, and results across engagements.
  • Provide senior-level strategic counsel on communications strategy, storytelling, and executive positioning.
  • Serve as a primary senior point of contact for key clients, building trusted, long-term relationships.
  • Identify and proactively address challenges, stepping in on high-stakes moments or shifting priorities as needed. 
  • Ensure work across accounts reflects TCPR’s standards of excellence, strategic rigor, and creative thinking.

Leadership and Growth

  • Act as a visible leader within the agency, setting the tone for strategic thinking, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Partner with the Founder/President and Senior Vice President on planning, forecasting, and growth initiatives within their assigned client portfolio.
  • Support new business efforts through participation in pitches, proposal development, and strategic conversations.
  • Represent the agency externally at industry events, panels, and networking opportunities, strengthening TCPR’s profile and relationships.

People and Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and develop account teams, fostering growth into confident, strategic communications leaders.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and performance management for assigned teams, in partnership with leadership.
  • Promote a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing culture rooted in clear communication, feedback, and collaboration.
  • Ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities across teams, supporting efficiency and morale.

Agency Operations and Performance

  • Partner with operations and leadership to ensure appropriate resourcing and staffing aligned with account needs and scope.
  • Track key performance indicators related to client health, team engagement, and overall account performance.
  • Review and help implement processes, tools, and best practices to improve efficiency and quality of work.
  • Ensure accounts are managed in a way that supports both client success and long-term agency sustainability.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • B.S./B.A. in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant PR agency experience, ideally within design, lifestyle, luxury, and adjacent industries.
  • Established senior-level relationships across a broad cross-section of consumer, trade, and business media, including national and regional print and digital outlets. Well-established relationships with leading designers, design firms, and influential voices across the design and cultural landscape.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic counsel and lead high-level client relationships.
  • Strong leadership experience, including managing and mentoring junior and mid-level team members.
  • Demonstrated track record of creative storytelling and securing meaningful coverage across print, digital, and broadcast media.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in supporting new business development and agency growth.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, networking, and verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to problem-solve and navigate complex client needs.
  • Flexible, curious, and passionate about the design industry and cultural landscape.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with PR databases and tools such as MuckRack and PR Newswire/Businesswire.
