IRO PARIS

Alexa Ottobre DiSimone, PR & Influence Manager

Alexa Ottobre DiSimone has been a passionate PR pro even before college graduation, exploring both agency-side and in-house comms before officially starting her career in fashion PR. It takes someone this inspired and creative to hold the post of PR and influence manager at IRO PARIS, a role that covers all the US marcomms bases for the fashion house. We spoke with Alexa about what keeps her excited and motivated, plus the importance of relationship-building, networking and kindness – for both seasoned PRs and those breaking into the industry today.

How did you get your start working in PR?

During my time at FIT I was very eager to gain hands-on experience outside of the classroom and landed my first-ever internship at Factory PR in their events department. This was my foot in the door and I loved every minute – it definitely solidified my interest in the field. I later joined brands like Brooks Brothers and Levi’s, which allowed me to further grow my experience. Come time for graduation, I knew exactly the career I saw for myself.

What drew you to the fashion industry?

There was always something very magnetic, fast-paced and exciting about fashion, and I’ve been enamored with it from a very early age. I looked at every magazine, TV show and book I could get my hands on to learn more about the industry and its key leaders. "The Woman I Wanted to Be” by Diane Von Furstenberg was and always will be a great inspiration and driving force behind me pursuing a career in fashion and life in New York City.

What does your current role as PR & Influence Manager entail?

I oversee all US initiatives, which range from strategic collaborations, brand awareness and influencer partnerships to seasonal presentations, activations and VIP placements. Every day is truly different, which keeps things exciting and inspiring.

Have the ever-evolving influencer and social media industries changed your role at all? If so, how?

While my role itself hasn’t changed, it’s definitely always a learning curve adapting to new trends and new platforms that arise across the industry. It’s a very competitive market for both influencers and brands, so I find building and nurturing genuine relationships to be extremely helpful, not to mention one of my favorite parts of the job!

Tell us a few of your fashion favorites at the moment.

I’m fully on the New Balance bandwagon and find myself wearing them almost everyday. Also while the weather is cold, UGGs!

Are there any exciting launches or campaigns coming up?

A very exciting year to come for IRO! We just recently released our SS23 campaign shot by Purienne at The Goldstein Residence in Los Angeles; signed with Unison Brands here in the US to represent our ever-expanding menswear division; and launched our newest handbag, The Noue Baby, which you can now shop at iroparis.com

What’s your advice to someone starting out in the fashion PR industry?

"Work hard and be nice to people” is one of my favorite quotes and truly the best advice. Kindness and a great work ethic never go unnoticed. Also: network, network, network!
