At Home With: Michael Moore, Vice President of Events

On ‘At Home With,’ we virtually visit our members and catch up on their current normal. From recommended reading and podcasts to creative recipes and wellness routines, get to know the network - and maybe even come away with a little activity inspo.

Meet Michael Moore, vice president of events at Christie’s. He left Chelsea for Chicago back in March, and remains there after a long weekend ended up being long-term. He shares how he's spending his downtime, which was once reserved for multiple theatre shows a week in NYC, with newfound hobbies and old favorite pastimes alike.

What’s your usual location, and where are you currently staying?

Although I am based in Chelsea, I have always lived part-time in Chicago. When I flew to Chicago in early March I thought it would just be for a long weekend.

Did you discover any new pastimes or creative outlets during lockdown that you’ll stick with?

I learned to crochet by watching YouTube and made a large afghan. I’m taking orders for the winter.

Do you have any favorite podcasts, books, newsletters, etc.?

I just finished Andre Leon Talley’s memoir “The Chiffon Trenches” and I have never missed an episode of Bevy Smith, Sandra Bernhard and my favorite – The Smith Sisters.

What do you miss most from pre-Covid life, and what’s keeping you going right now?

I definitely miss the New York theatre world. I used to see about two to three shows a week in New York. So many of the smaller theatres are suffering and some will not make it. I am doing what I can to support their online programs and play per views.

Any summer plans?

Can you believe summer is almost over? Late summer and early fall are my favorite times of the year in Chicago. I am going to make the most of every day with nice weather by being outside at the lake and park. Winter is a different story here…

As travel starts opening up, where will you be vacationing first?

St. Barts and Paris followed by London to see friends.
