eBay and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) celebrated the start of New York Fashion Week with Endless Runway: The Archive, a one-night retrospective honoring the designers, garments, and defining moments that have shaped American fashion. Curated by acclaimed editor and stylist Carlos Nazario, the immersive, storytelling-led exhibition brought together more than 150 rare and archival pieces, tracing decades of American fashion and the designers and cultural moments that have defined it.
Notable attendees included Carlos Nazario, Jenna Lyons, Heron Preston, Joseph Altuzarra, Claire Sullivan, Naomi Watts, Kai Schreiber, Carolyn Murphy, Natalia Bryant, Coco Rocha, and more.
At the center of the experience, the eBay Live auction was hosted by Jenna Lyons from within the exhibition, with select pieces from the Archive available to bid on in real time. The auction included special contributions directly from the archives of Calvin Klein Collection, DVF, Jason Wu, Michael Kors Collection, Proenza Schouler, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang and Willy Chavarria, alongside coveted archival pieces sourced from eBay from designers Anna Sui, Bob Mackie, Donna Karan, Halston, Isaac Mizrahi, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Todd Oldham, Tom Ford and Virgil Abloh, among others. Guests followed the auction as it unfolded within the space, while viewers everywhere tuned in to discover the stories behind the pieces and bid live. The live auction also featured special appearances from designers Joseph Altuzarra and Claire Sullivan, who joined Lyons to spotlight an archival Altuzarra dress from 2015 and a vintage I ♥ NY T-shirt from the 70’s, respectively, while sharing their perspectives on American fashion and design. All proceeds from the eBay Live auction benefited the CFDA.
Auction highlights included a vintage Bob Mackie beaded silk gown worn by Miley Cyrus on The Voice in 2017; the Marc Jacobs Fall 2001 black jersey trompe l’oeil dress worn by Winona Ryder during her highly publicized 2002 shoplifting trial; a Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis American flag sweater modeled by Julia Roberts; a Tom Ford for Gucci Spring/Summer 1996 mini dress; and a Michael Kors Collection crystal-embroidered slip dress, originally from 1990 and recreated for the brand’s 40th anniversary collection.
