A striking new building amid the greenery of Gramercy Park and designed by CetraRuddy, presents Garden’s Edge – an exhibition of contemporary art reflecting the dialogue between nature and urban life. The thoughtfully curated collection is displayed within the luxury condominium’s remarkable Sky Garden Penthouse, a full-floor retreat enveloped in 360-degree views and featuring ten works by female artists: Alexandria Tarver (represented by Nino Mier Gallery), Chellis Baird (represented by SLAG&RX Gallery), and Julia Whitney Barnes (represented by Kenise Barnes Fine Art).

In a neighborhood known for its Beaux-Arts streetscape and private garden, 200E20TH Street is a breath of fresh, contemporary air. Designed inside and out by CetraRuddy, this masterwork of contemporary architecture is elegantly curved, with sinuous lines of fine metalwork, and handsome proportions that sit perfectly on the corner of 20th Street and Third Avenue. The developer’s commitment to sustainability is evidenced in the high-performance curtain wall system, in-swing casement windows, and modulated façade that optimizes natural light and air for every room.
Garden’s Edge builds upon 200E20TH’s modern design legacy with ten beautiful works presented by New York-based artists who, like the development and design team, are fascinated with the city’s flora and fauna.
Alexandria Tarver uses foliage to explore themes of nature and passing, and her flowers reflect a thorough examination of natural objects similar to scientific illustration.
Chellis Baird blurs the intersection of painting, sculpture and textiles, and creates tangled compositions, reminiscent of overgrowing vines, through a series of twists, knots, and upcycled textiles.
Julia Whitney Barnes is well known for her innovations in Cyanotype (camera-less photographic printing process) and uses a multi-step process that includes harvesting flora (flowers and weeds being equally important) and combining several species into a single composition on photo-sensitive cotton paper.
